Australia’s construction industry is worth a staggering $140 billion dollars annually and contributes to 8% of GDP. There are over 1.1 million Australians employed in the construction industry and significant investment by state and federal governments in major infrastructure projects over the coming decades ensures unprecedented annual growth forecasts. Population growth is driving new home construction and infrastructure spending with Australia’s estimated resident population at 30 June 2017 of 24.6 million people being projected to increase to between 37.4 and 49.2 million people by 2066. Employment in the construction industry is tipped to grow at 3% annually and it is one of few to report significant wage growth due to skill shortages.
